More Political Participation
Women were able to play a more active role in politics; party women demanded to be represented in state and national committees, and began attending national political conventions.
"When we got our right to vote, this nation got its full strength. And it gave us a participatory opportunity to help make decisions for our country and to make us an equal partner in the decision-making process." -Glorious Johnson
Women gained higher positions; Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman to run for office for a major political party in 1948, and Madeline Albright was appointed secretary of state in 1996, the most powerful position in the cabinet appointed to a woman.
