The National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) was a leading organization during the movement and fought successfully to pass suffrage amendments in multiple state constitutions.
"Thus far women have been the mere echoes of men. Our laws and constitutions, our creeds and codes, and the customs of social life are all of masculine origin. The true woman is as yet a dream of the future. A just government, a humane religion, a pure social life await her coming." - Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Leaders
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony are the founders; two women very devoted to the movement. Stanton was famous for her writings; the author of the "Declaration of Rights And Sentiments" and "Solitude of Self". Anthony traveled and delivered speeches, but was remembered for her illegal voting attempt in 1872.
